All Region 18 Men's Basketball Team Announced

All Region 18 Men's Basketball Team Announced

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (February 27, 2020) – The No. 7 Salt Lake Community College men’s basketball team had a historic Scenic West Athletic Conference season and the All-Region 18 awards reflected as such.
 
After going a perfect 12-0 in league play for the first time in school history, the Bruins were honored with five individual players making the All-Region 18 lists to lead all teams. Additionally, Salt Lake’s Kyle Taylor was named as the Region 18 Coach-of-the-Year in his first season, with Justice Hill earning Region 18 Player-of-the-Year honors.
 
Taylor led Salt Lake to a record of 26-4 overall and 12-0 in Scenic West play during the season, with the team downing several nationally respected opponents along the way. SLCC went a perfect 9-0 on the road during the year. Taylor previously was an assistant coach at Idaho State and Utah State, along with being a successful head coach at the NCAA Division-III level.
 
Hill averaged 13.6 points in the season. A freshman from Little Rock Christian in Arkansas, he started 27 games and averaged 3.0 rebounds and had 120 assists on the season.
 
The All-Region 18 First-Team includes Hill and Asa McCord from Salt Lake. Snow College placed both Trey Farrar and Brayden Johnson, while USU Eastern had Gabriel Oliviera. Southern Idaho’s Mike Hood also made the First-Team.
 
Players who made the All-Region 18 Second-Team included: Spencer Johnson (Salt Lake), Brantzen Blackner (Snow), Kendall McHugh (Southern Idaho), Christian Haffner (USU Eastern) and Dre’Quez Harvey (Colorado Northwestern). The All-Region 18 Honorable Mention list featured: Christian Popoola and Ed Chang (SLCC), Tredyn Christensen and Matt Norman (Snow), Vojtech Ruzek and Turahn Thompson (USU Eastern), Maurice Barnett and Deng Dut (Southern Idaho) and Azarien Stephens (CNCC).
 
The Region 18 men’s championship game will be played at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the College of Southern Idaho.
