Defensive Player:
Kayla Elliott (SLCC)
Blocks – 30
Blocks per set – 2.31
I want everyone to know this was a hard decision for me to make; with having 2 Salt Lake athletes, however due to this amazing performance of blocking (a defensive skill), we felt that this player was worth of the award. She averaged 2.31 B/Set, which would put her 1st in the country. She averaged higher than the national leader in 3/4 matches, including a 2.2 vs. #9 Seward and 2.33 vs. NMMI (RV). She had 7 blocks against Palomar in just 2 sets (3.5/set) and 11 blocks against #9 Seward County (2.2/set). These type of numbers for blocks is not seen often, and for that we feel she deserves defensive player of the week.
