Snow College’s Walter Wright was named Scenic West Athletic Conference (SWAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance last week in home wins over USU-Eastern and Colorado Northwestern. The 5’11” point guard from Waterbury, Conn., scored 25 points on Thursday, going nine for 14 from the floor, in the Badgers’ 85-57 win Thursday over USU-Eastern. He followed that up with 21 points and nine assists Saturday in his team’s 113-79 shootout win over Colorado Northwestern. He averaged three rebounds and 3.5 steals in the two games.“Walter is as fine a young man and player as I have ever worked with,” said Snow head coach Rob Nielsen. “I think he epitomizes what coaches mean when they say a player is a coach on the floor.”
Earlier this season Wright set an all-time Snow College single game scoring record when he poured in 49 points against Sheridan College in a 96-89 win on Nov. 8. He is currently tied for fourth place nationally and leads the SWAC with a scoring average of 23.9 points per game. Snow College has a record of 16-6 overall and 5-2 in conference play which puts them in third place in the SWAC.
