LAS VEGAS, July 9, 2010 —The College of Southern Nevada today named Chris Sheff as athletics director and head baseball coach.
“Coach Sheff comes to us with extensive experience and a desire to help student athletes succeed,” CSN President Michael Richards said. “He’s ready to continue CSN’s winning tradition in baseball.”
Sheff replaces Tim Chambers, who left CSN after taking the team to the national JUCO World Series for the second time, to become the head baseball coach at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in June.
Sheff leaves Bishop Gorman High School, where he has served as head baseball coach for the past seven years. During that time, Sheff experienced great success, winning the past five state 4A championships and finishing in the top five in the nation the past three years. In addition in 2009, Bishop Gorman won the national championship and Coach Sheff was named National Coach of the Year.
"We are pleased to have Chris Sheff join our administrative and coaching team at CSN. I am certain he will do an outstanding job," Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Arthur R. Byrd said.
Sheff is eagerly looking forward to the job at CSN. His appointment to CSN athletics director and head coach is effective immediately.
"It is certainly a great deal of responsibility, but I am confident and willing to put in the necessary time to get the job done,” Sheff said. “Dedication to hard work by me and my team has been a major factor in the success of the Bishop Gorman Baseball program.”
