CSI Softball splits on Friday at USU Eastern
PRICE, Utah - The College of Southern Idaho Softball Team fell in game one 13-6 before bouncing back for the 14-11 win in game two Friday in Scenic West Athletic Conference play.
The Eagles of Price scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning to start the opener and CSI never recovered.
The Golden Eagles had home runs by Carley Croshaw and Sherry Boone in the game. Also solid at the plate were Kylie Baumert, who was 3-for-3 with a walk and Tristin Evans who was 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI.
Game two started much the same way for CSI.
After taking a 2-0 lead on a triple by Hannah Peterson and a home run by Evans, the Golden Eagles gave up five runs on two home runs, a triple, two singles and three walks in the bottom half of the first. CSI trailed 10-4 heading into the top of the fourth.
That's when the Golden Eagle bats got hot.
Peterson led off the inning with a single followed by a Baumert home run. Evans doubled, Shepherd walked and Kaeley Loader knocked a 3-run home run. Emma Wilson singled and Carley Crowshaw doubled before Nikki Zielinski scored them on a double to take the lead for good at 11-10.
CSI added some insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run home run by Mya Washington and then an RBI single in the seventh by Loader.
Mailee Jensen earned the win in the circle. The freshman entered the game in the third and gave up just two runs on six hits the rest of the way.
Loader was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, Shepherd was 2-for-3 with a home run and Evans was 2-for-4 with a home run. Croshaw finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles
CSI, 20-12 overall and 13-5 in conference action, play USUE Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
