TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 19, 2022) – The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team continue its winning ways Thursday, opening a postseason tournament with a dominant victory.
Playing host to the NJCAA Western District tournament at Cate Field, the Bruins earned a 10-1 win over Region 9 champion Southeast Community College, moving to 4-0 in the postseason. SLCC is now 47-8 overall and has a mark of 23-1 at Cate Field this season.
It was Southeast who took an early 1-0 lead, prior to Salt Lake hanging five runs in the fourth inning to take a lead it would never relinquish. Dalton Hodge hit a solo home run in the inning, followed up by RBI base hits for Braden Winget and Hunter Swapp.
The Bruins added to the advantage in the fifth inning as Bruer Webster hit a two-run double, followed up by Swapp hitting a two-run double. Jaxon Weatherly added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
Derik Eaquinto pitched a complete-game victory, allowing a single run in seven innings of work. Eaquinto also posted four strikeouts in the win.
The Bruins will play in a winners' bracket semifinal game at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, with the winner advancing to the Western District championship game on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
