No. 11 SLCC Baseball advances to NJCAA Western District championship game

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (May 20, 2022) - The No. 11 Salt Lake Community College Baseball team is officially one win away from the NJCAA World Series.
 
SLCC earned a nail-biting 12-11 win over Region 1 champion Central Arizona, advancing to Saturday's Western District championship game. Central Arizona will drop into an elimination game on Friday evening. The Bruins are now 47-8 overall.
 
It was Central Arizona who built the early lead, prior to Salt Lake scoring five runs in the fifth inning to take a lead. Karson Bodily hit an RBI double in that fifth inning rally, then Daniel Gonzalez hit a two-run double later in the frame. Bodily also hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning. 
 
Tied at 9-9 entering the ninth inning, Salt Lake scored a pair of runs on a Hunter Swapp two-run single. Bodily also hit an RBI single in the frame.
 
A native of Woods Cross, Bodily went 6-of-6 at the plate, finishing with 4 RBI's. Swapp went 3-of-6. Mason Green earned the pitching win in relief, throwing a pair of innings to end the game. 
 
The NJCAA Western District championship game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Cate Field on Saturday. SLCC's opponent will have to defeat the Bruins in multiple games to end Salt Lake's season.
