HERRIMAN, Utah (October 27, 2022) – The No. 1 Salt Lake Community College Men’s Soccer team earned considerable acclaim in Thursday’s Region 18 awards release, after completing an undefeated season in the Scenic West Athletic Conference.
SLCC earned a league-high nine selections to the All-Region 18 honors list, which was released to the public during Thursday matches of the Region 18 tournament. The Bruins also swept the individual honors as SLCC’s Damien Aguello was named ‘Region 18 Player-of-the-Year’, while Ben Williams earned ‘Region 18 Goalkeeper-of-the-Year’. Coach of the year was awarded to Mark Davis of Salt Lake CC.
A native of Caldwell, Idaho, Aguello scored seven goals on just nine shots-on-goal, finishing with an overall shooting percentage of .583. He started just one match for SLCC as a sophomore, complimenting a talented Bruins roster. On the defensive side, Williams made 34 saves on the season and allowed just 12 goals all year. The talented freshman from Lehi had a save percentage of .739.
The All-Region 18 First Team list included: Santiago Delfino, Sergio Martinez, Kevin Ventura, and Zion Wagoner (Salt Lake); Joseph Valle, Casey Stracher, and Thomas Kirkham (USU Eastern); Ethan Boyd and Ituski Matsuyama (Snow); and Cypress Navarro Acio and Eli Zaragosa (Southern Nevada).
Honorees on the All-Region 18 Second Team were: Ty Sanchez and Jimiyu Mark (Salt Lake); Christian Marciscano and Kevin Jones (USU Eastern); Zachary Lifferth and Oliver Fehintola (Snow); Jose Gonzales and Anthony Carrasco (Southern Nevada); Allen Somera and Cuauhtemoc Borjon (Truckee Meadows); and Dante Lowe (Colorado Northwestern).
