TWIN FALLS, Idaho - The College of Southern Idaho Softball team won its 15th straight game, beating Salt Lake CC 6-4 for the Region 18 Championship on Thursday.
The Golden Eagle pitchers gave up one total earned run over the three-day tournament.
On Thursday CSI benefited from a couple key long balls. Trailing 1-0, Ava Howell got the scoring started with a solo shot to left field. With two on, Alyce Archuleta hit the second one to put CSI up to stay at 4-1. The Golden Eagles would add two more for the win.
Marissa Mauger earned the win in the circle, the third different pitcher with a win in the region tournament, giving up one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts. Eva Stoddard came in to shut the door, pitching the final 1.2 innings and giving up no runs on no hits with two strikeouts.
Several Golden Eagles were rewarded for their week of play by making the all-tournament team. Adi Hansen, Emerson Fuller, Howell and Archuleta were all selected and Stoddard earned Region 18 Tournament MVP honors.
This will be CSI's fourth straight trip to the NJCAA Division I National Championships and third Region 18 Championship in the last four years.
The tournament is set for May 19th-24th in Yuma, Ariz.
