OXFORD, Ala. - The College of Southern Softball Team lost to Temple College before beating Wabash Valley Tuesday at the NJCAA Division I World Series.
The Golden Eagles battled to the end with Temple, losing on a walk-off hit in the seventh inning.
Down 2-0, Jade Romero hit a two-run home run to tie it in the fifth inning. After Temple scored one in the bottom of the fifth before CSI tied it again in the top of the seventh after Anslie Yazzie doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Maile Ha'o.
Yazzie was 2-for-3, Kyli Carrell was 1-for-2 and Lexi Crowley was 1-for-2 with a double.
Marissa Mauger pitched the first 4.1 innings, giving up three earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Ella Farrell pitched the final 2.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits with two strikeouts.
Game two against Wabash was all CSI. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 8-0 lead and coasted behind the power of Jade Romero.
The freshman was 2-for-2 with a walk, a triple, a home run and five RBI. Ha'o was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Camryn Guest was 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Alyce Archuleta was 1-for-1 with two walks and a double and Rilyne Keck added a one-rbi double.
Sophia Bristow earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on three hits with two strikeouts. Farrell pitched 2.1 innings, giving up no runs on three hits with one strikeout and Emerson Fuller pitched the final inning, giving up no runs on no hits.
The Golden Eagles now take on Trinity Valley Wednesday at 9 a.m. CT in an elimination game.
