No. 8 Seed Salt Lake Win First Game of JUCO World Series in Blowout Fashion

Grossman (1-0) and Weatherly Combine to Toss a Two-Hitter

GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO- No. 8 seed SLCC Baseball beat No. 3 seed Florida SouthWestern State College 16-2 in seven innings. 

The Bruins broke open the scoring in the third inning as RF Hudson Manwaring hit a two-RBI double and 1B Jalen Seward doubled to bring in Manwaring. 

Salt Lake had 13 hits as a team and drew 14 walks. The Bruins scored seven runs in the top of the seventh off four walks, three HBP, and two hits. Manwaring and Seward both recorded RBI singles in the big inning. 

CF Luke Jacobs went 1 for 3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Manwaring was named the player of the game as he went 4 for 5 with five RBI and a run scored. 

RHP Jaxon Grossman got the win for the Bruins and recorded a quality start. Grossman tossed five innings, struck out five batters, and allowed only one earned run and one hit. RHP Dallin Weatherly pitched the sixth and the seventh for Salt Lake. Weatherly struck out four and walked three batters. He also surrendered only one hit and one earned run. 

Salt Lakes game was the fourth game of the night. The earlier games went long which pushed the Bruins original 7:30 game time. The game ended up starting at 10:25 p.m. and ending at 1:12 a.m. after seven innings.

The Bruins are (1-0) in the JUCO World Series played in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Bru Cru now play nine seeded Lake Land College out of Mattoon, IL at 9:00 am on Monday May, 26th.
